International Advanced Diploma in Computer Studies (IADCS)

Equivalent to year 2 of a 3 year UK honours degree | HE Level I (Intermediate), National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Level: 5
Accredited by Ofqual as NCC Education Level 5 Advanced Diploma in Computer Studies. (Qualification Reference Number 100/6194/0)
Suitable for those with previous IT experience, the International Advanced Diploma has a strong professional element, focusing on analytical and business skills.
Objectives
Successful IADCS students will be able to demonstrate:
- Knowledge and understanding of the established principles of computer systems development and management, and of the way in which these principles have developed
- The ability to apply their skills and aptitudes to the analysis, design, implementation and management of computer systems, to solve business and organisational problems
- The ability to contribute to the implementation of such systems within an agreed timescale and within agreed cost estimates
- The ability to manage the operation of such systems and the needs of the user community
- Awareness and understanding of the wider issues concerning the use and integration of computer systems in society at large
- Knowledge and understanding of a well-developed set of problem-solving and analytical skills which can be applied in the pursuit of a wide range of occupations, and in further study
- The ability to effectively communicate and present ideas and describe and evaluate systems in both written and oral forms
- A professional approach and sense of responsibility to users and fellow practitioners in computing
Entry Requirements
On entry a student must have at least one of the following:
- NCC Education International Diploma in Computer Studies (IDCS) qualification.
- A local or international qualification which is deemed to be of a similar level to the IDCS programme. This shall be agreed in advance with NCC Education.
Applicants who are not NCC Education graduates and whose first langauge is not English will need: EITHER

Structure
A total of seven modules, four of which are core and three electives.

- Enterprise Networking
- Database Design and Development
- Practical Project
Elective Modules:
Advanced Programming Stream
- Advanced Java
- Advanced Visual Basic
Internet Systems Stream
- Internet Systems Administration
- Internet Security
Business Management Stream
- Business Management
- Managing Business Projects
General Stream
- Any three elective modules
Included in this stream are:
- Advanced Web Design
- Computer Forensics
Assessment
Coursework and examination.
Academic Progression
Eligible IADCS students can apply to enrol on the NCC Education BSc (Hons) in Business Computing and Information Systems validated and awarded by the University of Wales.
Alternatively, students can apply to one of the universities which accepts NCC Education graduates for progression to their degree programmes.
Career Progression
With extensive skills and experience in the IT field, systems analysis, development and management principles, possible careers include Systems Analyst or Web Developer.
