Due to growth, an exciting opportunity is available for an experienced IT Systems Engineer to join a global provider and awarding body of British education. Based in Didsbury, Manchester, the successful Administrator will earn £17,000 - £22,000 depending on experience.

The Company is a prestigious UK awarding body with over 200 Accredited Partner Centres in over 49 countries across the world. It provides UK qualifications and certification to students from entry level through to degree and Master’s.

The role of the IT Systems Administrator is to provide desktop and network support to the global organisation. Reporting to the Head of IT, the IT Systems Administrator main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing 1st line technical support for desktop and network support and escalating tasks where this is not possible
  • Monitoring and responding to all new IT service requests via ticketing system, telephone, face to face and email
  • Logging all support in the ticketing system regardless of how the support was raised and ensuring all tickets are 100% up to date at all times
  • Providing remote support to the global workforce using tools such as TeamViewer and Skype
  • Manage IT incidents through their life-cycle with the emphasis on increasing end-user uptime, issue prevention and improved customer service/focus
  • Monitoring the network health using tools such as the PRTG network monitor and CACTI network traffic analyser
  • Perform routine health and operational checks as appropriate, meeting room operational checks, end of day health checks
  • Provide administrative support to managing relevant software and hardware procurement and licenses
  • Apply patches/updates to IT servers, desktops and services using tools such as Windows Server Update Services

Maintain high levels of confidentiality and information security, complying with the relevant legislation and company’s relevant policies and procedures

Main Duties

The successful IT Systems Administrator will have a Degree level education (Computer Science or equivalent) or relevant experience, in addition to the following skills and experience:

  • Knowledge of the following: Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2012, VMWare, VEEAM, Linux RedHat Enterprise Server, Fortigate firewalls / VPN tunnels, Exchange 2010, Windows Server Update Services, Anti-virus and security, Systems development
  • Hardware and networking of a multi-site/global environment
  • Databases – Access, MS SQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL
  • Backup and restore procedures
  • Internal and External Customer focus
  • Capable of developing relationships
  • Adaptable and proactive with a ‘can do’ approach
  • Willingness to improve existing knowledge and acquire new skills through self-education, research and development
