Purchase Ledger / Payroll Officer

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Purchase Ledger/Payroll Officer to join a global provider and awarding body of British education in a full time position, working 37.5 hours per week (Monday- Friday, 0830-1700). Based in Didsbury, Manchester, the successful Purchase Ledger/Payroll Officer will earn £18,000 - £21,000 dependent on experience.

As a Purchase Ledger/Payroll Officer you will be responsible for ensuring supplier invoices are recorded in an accurate and timely fashion, and preparing financial reports, payments runs to suppliers and staff, as well as processing UK and overseas payroll. Reporting to the Financial Controller the main responsibilities of the Purchase Ledger/Payroll Officer include:

  • Improve and maintain Purchase ledger and Payroll processes
  • Ensure procedure for raising Credit Notes is adhered to and that actions are taken in a timely fashion
  • Ensure all invoices are recorded on Purchase Ledger in a timely and accurate fashion
  • Match invoices received to authorised Purchase Orders or gain approval in line with procedures
  • Prepare weekly payments for suppliers ensuring invoices to be paid are authorised and that documentation is provided to authorisers
  • Prepare weekly payments for expenses as above
  • Ensure payments are fully matched to invoices in Dynamics system in a timely fashion
  • Ensure receipts are received for all employee expenditure and that invoices are fully recorded
  • Ensure Management Accountant is fully aware of all subcontractor invoices to be subjected to deduction of tax
  • Reconcile supplier account statements on a periodic basis in line with procedure
  • Prepare monthly payroll for UK and overseas staff, ensure correct approval prior to processing and payment


Main Duties

The successful Purchase Ledger / Payroll Officer will possess an AAT qualification level 2/3 or equivalent experience in addition to the following skills and experience:

  • Able to critically evaluate systems and processes to find efficient ways of operating
  • Knowledge of purchase ledger and payroll procedures and accounting
  • Previous administration experience
  • GCSE or equivalent Maths minimum grade B
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office Excel; advanced Microsoft Office Excel and Dynamics
  • Knowledge of Sage Payroll
  • Excellent written and oral English communication
  • A good understanding of accounting terminology
  • Knowledge of Foreign currency
